Certificate IV in Information Technology (Web Development)

Overview

This course is best suited for people who would like to develop the skills and knowledge to create engaging websites using the latest web technologies. The course includes web design and programming and is nationally accredited.

You will learn how to:

  • Create websites using HTML and CSS
  • Program in JavaScript, PHP and MySQL
  • Design web page layouts
  • Create WordPress websites

6 months full time (18 weeks) or 1 year part time (36 weeks - 3 nights per week)

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements for this course however to successfully participate and complete the course you will need to:

  • Use computers regularly
  • Know how to install and configure software
  • Have completed prior IT courses or you have worked in an industry where computers are used frequently
  • Have above-average typing speed
  • Be able to easily manage your files and folders on a computer

If you do not have the above skills we recommend starting with a Certificate III in Information Technology.

What will I be able to do when I finish this course?

Completion of this certificate will provide you with the skills to apply for the Diploma in Web Development, or to work as a junior web designer/developer in industry.

After completing the course you will be able to design, create and maintain web sites. Including websites requiring web programming in PHP and JavaScript. You will be able to use Photoshop/Adobe XD to design engaging layouts and create web pages in HTML and CSS based on requirements.

As well as creating functional websites, you will also look at selecting web hosting and search engine optimisation (SEO). The web pages created will be accessible on a range of devices including mobile devices.

This course provides highly relevant skills in the front-end and back-end of web development. You will be able to develop interactive websites using a range of methods and tools. You will be able to apply for jobs as a web designer, web developer or even run your own freelance agency.
