Overview

WEB PROGRAMMING AND DESIGN

You will learn how to create websites that combine great design and exceptional functionality. In this course, you will gain the specialised skills needed to plan, design, implement, test and maintain web applications.

You will develop web applications using JavaScript, SQL, PHP, HTML and CSS. The course also teaches you how to customise WordPress websites.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for this course, however to successfully participate and complete this course you will need to have:

  • Very good knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Programming experience, preferably in PHP and JavaScript
  • Image creation and manipulation in a package such as Photoshop
  • Web design principles
  • Above average typing skills
  • Very good communication skills

If you do not have the above skills we recommend starting with a Certificate IV in Web-based Technologies.

What will I be able to do when I finish this course?

Completion of this diploma will provide you with the ability to apply for a university degree in information technology. Individual campuses will advise you of any credit towards the degree some campuses provide you with 1 year of exemptions.

Web programming

  • Create user-friendly web applications using advanced HTML and CSS
  • Learn how to create object-oriented web applications using PHP
  • Create data-driven applications that access and manipulate data stored in a MySQL database
  • Program in JavaScript to enhance the user interface

Web project

  • Customise content management systems (WordPress)
  • Design and build a web application according to business requirements
  • Build secure and robust web applications

Database design and SQL

  • Use SQL to access and modify data stored in a database
  • Design and create databases
