Course Info: Web-Based Technologies

 

Overview

The course is designed for people wishing to pursue a career producing effective sites on the World Wide Web.  The skills you will develop span several areas including:

• Creating standards based web sites using XHTML and Cascading Style Sheets
• Client-side programming using JavaScript
• Server-side programming using PHP
• Search engine optimisation
• Design Fundamentals
• Website marketing
• Adobe programs - Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks
• Project development management techniques
• Discuss contemporary web technologies including: RSS, XML, API and Ajax.

Length

6 months full time (18 weeks) or 1 year part time (36 weeks - 3 nights per week)

The next intake is for semester 1, 2012. Full time and part time places will be available.

Prerequisites

The TAFE website states students should have NSW School Certificate (or equivalent). However we run this course in 2 stages. Stage 1 is covered in our certificate 2 or 3, stage 2 assumes you have already completed stage 1

Applicants will need to have completed Certificate II in Information Technology or equivalent.

What will I be able to do when I finish this course?

This course provides highly relevant skills in the front-end and back-end of web design. You will be able to develop interactive websites using a range of methods and tools.  You will be able to apply for jobs as a web designer, web developer or even run your own freelance agency.

In this stream you will learn how to create a data base in MySQL, connect to it using PHP and display/edit data through the web pages you create.
